LIPIX (Long Island Patient Information Exchange) is an independent not-for-profit corporation established to develop a RHIO (Regional Health Information Organization)/HIE (Health Information Exchange) on Long Island. It was founded in January 2007 by Benjamin Stein, MD who continues to serve as the RHIO's president and CEO. LIPIX was established to take advantage of the HEAL/HIT (Health Information Technology) Grants being offered by New York State to improve connectivity between the region's healthcare organizations.

At the time he founded LIPIX, Dr. Stein served as an IT executive for one of Long Island's prominent healthcare systems. Stein headed up the charge to apply for the HEAL Grant and assumed the leadership role at LIPIX once the grant was approved.
