CynergisTek Announces New Meaningful Use Security Program

Leading Healthcare IT Security Company Extends Services to Include Security and Risk Analysis for Meaningful Use Attestation

CynergisTek, a leading provider of IT security solutions for healthcare organizations, announced recently the availability of a new Meaningful Use Security Program designed to asses compliance with security regulations and minimize risk in preparation for Meaningful Use attestation.

CynergisTek's Meaningful Use Security Program offers three levels of comprehensive analysis and is designed to meet the needs of healthcare organizations whose information security programs are at varying stages of maturity.

  • Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) - IV&V is available to organizations that have an existing enterprise security risk management program but are seeking third-party verification to ensure that all appropriate security measures are being taken.
  • MU Review - An independent review specifically focusing on security preparation for Meaningful Use attestation is available to organizations seeking a more in-depth assessment of privacy and security programs associated with Meaningful Use requirements.
  • Full Review - Top to bottom security analysis including, but not limited to, Meaningful Use is available to organizations that may not have performed an in-depth assessment in recent years. The full review will provide a baseline for future security initiatives.

"With many healthcare organizations focused on Meaningful Use attestation and related incentives, few are considering the inherent security risks associated with the process," said CynergisTek CEO, Mac McMillan, "Serious security risks such as Medicare fraud, legal action or reputational harm resulting from a data breach, represent just a few of the potentially threatening outcomes that can be eliminated with our new security program. With this program, we hope to ensure that healthcare organizations receive and maintain all Meaningful Use incentives and are best prepared to address the requirements forthcoming in Stage 2."

Meaningful Use is achieved through the implementation and significant adoption of a certified electronic health record (EHR). The Healthcare Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) has determined that healthcare organizations that can prove Meaningful Use attestation will be eligible for incentive payments. The mandatory requirement to conduct an IT security risk analysis is just as significant as the other performance criteria associated with the use of the EHR.

CynergisTek's solutions and services are specifically designed to help healthcare organizations improve their security posture, facilitate compliance, improve operational efficiency and foster trust. CynergisTek managed and on-demand solutions address the fundamental elements of information security management including:

  • Strategy and Governance
  • Compliance and Risk
  • Infrastructure
  • Technical Vulnerability Management
  • Audit
