Medicare physicians' pay is being cut, while their cost of business is going up, which may affect how doctors treat their patients, reduce hospital admissions and slash everyone's bottom line, not to mention patients' quality of care.
In the past ten years, practice costs have escalated by more than 20 percent, and are estimated to increase another 20 percent in the next six years according to the American Medical Association (AMA). However, physician pay was due to plunge 21.2 percent on April 1 and may plummet a cumulative 40 percent by 2016 without Congressional intervention.
