Trinity Health Chooses MEDSEEK To Implement Online Patient Experience

Existing Relationship Includes Previous Engagement Building Consumer-Facing Websites

MEDSEEK, the leading provider of enterprise eHealth solutions that give patients, clinicians and administrative staff an optimal 360-degree online experience, recently announced plans to deepen its relationship with long-time partner Trinity Health. It will develop, design and implement the healthcare system's fully integrated online patient experience.

"We value our relationship with Trinity Health," said MEDSEEK CEO Peter Kuhn. "When we have the opportunity to work closely with a client like Trinity from the very beginning of their eHealth initiatives, we are best able to leverage existing resources, deploy solutions efficiently and, most importantly, we can help our clients accomplish their financial, competitive and regulatory objectives simultaneously."

Phase one of Trinity's new patient experience will establish an integrated Personal Health Record (PHR). It will be available upon request to the more than eight million patients currently in its electronic health record database. This phase of the eHealth initiative – which will include access to patient demographic data, discharge summaries, medication lists, allergies, problem lists, procedure lists, discharge instructions and diagnostic test results – will help Trinity meet Meaningful Use Stage two requirements or patient activation and engagement.

The next phase of implementation will provide patient access to secured messaging with physician offices and will deliver the entire patient experience on any smartphone platform.

Trinity Health's new patient experience marks the second phase of the healthcare system's plan to provide a consistent online healthcare consumer experience across its Unified Enterprise Ministry of more than 450 facilities. MEDSEEK was previously engaged to develop the system's ten corporate and regional consumer-facing websites by fourth quarter of 2011.

"Our vision was — and is — to create a seamless online user experience that incorporates both inpatient and outpatient information," said Vikki Johnston, Director of eHealth at Trinity Health. "MEDSEEK has been able to help us do this – through the provision of effective solutions."

Many of Trinity Health's eHealth initiatives have been in place since long before Meaningful Use requirements were defined as part of the Affordable Care Act. "Of course, we intend to move quickly to achieve the new requirements, now," said Johnston, "But our long-term goals go beyond those mandates. We plan to provide our patients with a comprehensive online experience that engages them in their own health care and that ultimately impacts the quality of their care as well as their outcomes."
