PatientKeeper "overlay" to MEDITECH HIS enables physicians at Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance and Alexandra Marine & General Hospital to access patient information on smartphones and iPads

Waltham, MA; Goderich, ON; Stratford, ON (PRWEB) - PatientKeeper® Inc., the leading provider of healthcare applications for physicians, today announced that three hospitals in Ontario, Canada – including two in the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) and the Alexandra Marine & General Hospital (AMGH) – have gone live with the PatientKeeper Physician Portal™, PatientKeeper Mobile Clinical Results™ and PatientKeeper NoteWriter™. PatientKeeper’s software enables physicians rounding at the three hospitals to easily access and act on all their patient information from their smartphones, iPads®, laptops or PCs. Two more HPHA hospitals are expected to roll out PatientKeeper next month.

PatientKeeper functions as a “physician overlay” to the hospitals’ MEDITECH® MAGIC 5.64 HIS and other departmental systems, making it possible for physicians to get all the patient information they need very efficiently in a single system that is optimized for their workflow.

“PatientKeeper is taking us to a whole new level in terms of making technology accessible to physicians when, where and how they want it,” said Andrew Williams, HPHA’s chief executive officer. “We’re putting patient information in physicians’ hands, electronically at the bedside, and they’re excited to have it.”

“PatientKeeper encompasses the best that is available when it comes to applying information technology to solve current healthcare problems,” said Shanil Narayan, MD, a physician at HPHA’s Stratford General Hospital. “PatientKeeper is a forward-thinking platform that allows us to grow and adapt as new needs arise. I particularly look forward to showing it off to new doctors who come to train with us, and leveraging it as a cutting edge education tool as we work to recruit the best physicians to our area.”

HPHA and AMGH serve a region encompassing two counties in southwestern Ontario with a population of approximately 135,000. HPHA comprises four hospitals in Clinton, St. Marys, Seaforth and Stratford; AMGH is in Goderich. The five hospitals have a combined total of 250 beds and share a common information technology infrastructure.

Karen Davis, CEO of AMGH, said, “The PatientKeeper system has just gone live, and with it comes a substantive leap forward using leading technology to improve access to patient information for our physicians, wherever they are. It will create a significant reduction in the amount of time they spend getting the information they need. This is how technology should work.”

According to John Brennan, IT director for HPHA, the PatientKeeper implementation, including integration with MEDITECH, went very smoothly. “This was a case of exemplary teamwork,” Brennan said. “PatientKeeper’s out-of-the-box integration with MEDITECH was beautiful. We didn’t have to do any integration within our IT shop.”

The PatientKeeper Physician Portal is a web-based unified environment for physicians to work with information from systems across the hospital and community. Mobile Clinical Results provides physicians with a complete view of patient clinical data on a smartphone or tablet, so they can access it wherever they are, at any time. NoteWriter enables electronic documentation that physicians can easily integrate into their current workflow.

PatientKeeper’s platform allows for the addition of advanced clinical workflow applications, such as CPOE, medication reconciliation, and e-signature, so physicians can review and act on patient information from a single, physician-friendly work environment. More than 50,000 physicians at over 450 hospitals and practice groups in the U.S., Canada and the UK use PatientKeeper software.
