Western Piedmont Heart Centers Reduces A/R Days, Increases Efficiency, And Speeds Claims

This case study from ZirMed takes a look at Western Piedmont Heart Centers (WPHC), a cardiology group providing cardiovascular diagnostic, imaging, therapeutic, and monitoring services in West Central North Carolina. WPHC’s business was growing and its staff was experiencing increased workflow which was causing problems with rejected claims and billing report errors. WPHC was also looking for more complete reporting and management functions so they could better understand and improve their overall operations.

In 2003 WPHC implemented GEMMS ONE®, an integrated practice management system designed specifically for cardiology clinics which allowed it to raise its patient volume without sacrificing quality of care. WPHC experienced major improvements in their operations and efficiency with the combination of scheduling and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) tools in GEMMS ONE, however, its claims clearinghouse workflow was still an issue. The lack of reporting capabilities provided by WPHC’s clearinghouse at the time made it difficult for them to pursue rejected claims.

WPHC sought assistance from GEMMS, which recommended ZirMed as a revenue cycle management partner. WPHC switched to ZirMed based on GEMMS’ recommendation.
