Barco Launches CareConnex: A Complete Interactive Patient Care Solution
Barco, a global leader in healthcare IT systems, announces the launch of “CareConnex, powered by Hospedia”, a fully integrated interactive patient care enterprise solution designed to support a better patient experience and improve hospital efficiency and profitability. CareConnex will be introduced at Hospital Build & Infrastructure in Dubai, 3-5 June.
With CareConnex, Barco provides a unique end-to-end IT solution with its strategic partner, Hospedia, the world’s largest operator of point-of-care bedside systems. The solution helps hospitals deliver the best in patient care, ensure clinical efficiency, achieve Meaningful Use with respect to technology implementation, and create potential new revenue streams.
CareConnex uses the most advanced point-of-care enterprise software – delivered on a range of high-quality, innovative Smart Terminals at the patient bedside – and includes all associated accessories, back office systems, integration and support expertise. In addition, Hospedia offers professional and managed services, such as content aggregation and yield management, to hospitals worldwide.
A strong return on investment
“CareConnex is an interactive patient care solution, offering patient media, patient engagement, and clinical workflow services right at the bedside,” comments Warren Kressinger-Dunn, VP of Strategic Marketing for Barco’s Point-of-Care division. “But more than providing infotainment, CareConnex gives hospitals the tools to provide care more efficiently and cost-effectively, without compromising quality or the financial bottom line.”
Boosting patient satisfaction scores
Offering a wide array of capabilities, CareConnex connects patients and healthcare professionals at the point of care. Patients can easily access television, movies, radio, Internet, e-mail, games and more to make their stay in the hospital more comfortable. They can choose from various options to personalize their stay: from ordering their meals to communicating with the care team and taking a more active role in their care process.
In addition, healthcare delivery organizations can directly capture patient feedback, on any topic, at any time during the patient stay. This feedback can be used to improve the delivery of care and further boost patient satisfaction scores, which may impact hospital reimbursement tied to these scores.
“We are seeing that patients who are actively engaged throughout their hospital stay typically experience greater overall satisfaction, which can also positively influence their clinical outcome,” adds Kressinger-Dunn. “From this perspective, CareConnex directly impacts patient satisfaction scores, such as HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), which are becoming more important than ever.”
Easy clinical access
Providing healthcare workers with access to a wide range of applications directly at the bedside, CareConnex helps improve clinical workflow and productivity. The ability to instantly access a patient’s electronic medical records (EMR) and the hospital information system (HIS) – while safeguarding patient privacy – results in improved efficiencies and better decision-making at the bedside. Also greatly beneficial to healthcare providers are a host of user-friendly tools, such as direct or remote interaction with patients.
Creating new revenue streams
For end users, CareConnex offers specialist services via Hospedia, such as content aggregation and yield management, to maximize the return on investment. Hospitals can package and up-sell patient entertainment bundles to generate extra revenue and promote local products and services through full-screen or banner advertisements.
