Podcast: Traditional HIE Vs. Hospital HIE: What's The Difference?

Kipp Lassetter, CEO of Medicity, talks with Health IT Outcomes editor in chief Ken Congdon in this exclusive podcast. During the conversation, Lassetter outlines some fundamental differences between traditional HIE and hospital, or enterprise, HIE. Lassetter also provides some key insight throughout the podcast on the steps necessary to deploy a successful HIE project.

In response to the question of what benefits a can physician expect to gain from HIE, Lassetter says, "Well, for the physician the benefits are many, but they start with one — eliminating the paper chase. Instead of lab results coming in on paper, they can come into your information systems as discrete data. That better access and better understanding around the information is the real benefit to the physician that is participating in an enterprise HIE or community HIE."
