What The C-Suite Should Know About 'Meaningful Use'

Source: MEDSEEK

In this podcast, Peter Kuhn, CEO of MEDSEEK speaks with Health IT Outcomes's editor in chief Ken Congdon about key considerations senior healthcare executives should take into account when deploying technology solutions in effort to meet the EHR "meaningful use" criteria outlined by the federal government. Key topics discussed during the podcast include the roles executive leadership and physicians should play in a technology deployment and the core technology investments that will need to be made. In response to the question of what factors should a C-level executive weigh in their technology planning, Kuhn says "What's interesting is all this investment is going into building new outpatient centers, investing in new service lines, private beds, flat-screen TVs in the room, better food, Starbucks, etc. So, if a hospital just spent $100 million investing in a new outpatient center or a new service line where it attracted a couple of new cardiologists, use technology to create a patient experience and a physician experience that allows you to fill that building."
